Inc. Reads

Posted by Carole Matthews at 12:59 PM

Hillary Johnson writes in the August 2005 issue of Inc. that some of the smartest people she's met, she's met by reading their weblogs. As a complement to her list of regular reads, the Inc. and Inc.com staff thought we'd share our own list with Fresh Inc. readers.

AdPulp
http://adpulp.com/
What's new in the world of branding? AdPulp covers the good -- and the bad -- of branding in the advertising world.

Becker-Posner
http://www.becker-posner-blog.com/index.html
Gary Becker, professor of Economics and Sociology and Nobel Prize winner for economics, and Richard Posner, a professor at the University of Chicago Law School, consider the economic consequences of social and political happenings.

Blogdex
http://blogdex.net/
Blogdex offers an easy to browse list of the hottest links to other blogs on a daily basis. Topics range from Bush to business to sites that compile silly photographs. No matter what, it's always surprising.

Bnoopy: An Entrepreneurship Blog
http://bnoopy.typepad.com/bnoopy/
Started in September of 2004, Bnoopy has chronicled the career of an experienced entrepreneur. Whether offering suggestions on what questions to ask a potential employee during an interview or recommending books on business, Bnoopy's suggestions are usually wise and highly detailed.

Dan Bricklin
http://danbricklin.com/log/
Dan Bricklin, the godfather of business software and inventor of electronic spreadsheets, shares his thoughts and knowledge on the computer industry, making websites, the PC industry, and more technology-related topics.

eBizBlog
http://www.ebizblog.ca/
eBizBlog helps small business owners learn more about the Internet and low-cost technology solutions. The contributors to the weblog are firm believers that Internet technology can improve business processes for small and micro-enterprises.

Freakonomics
http://www.freakonomics.com/blog.php
This weblog is by Steven Levitt, co-author of Freakonimics, a book that explores "the hidden side of everything." Through his not-so-traditional economic viewpoints, Levitt comments on just about everything from the "freakonmics" of poker to seat belts and air bags.

Hot Points by Bob Parsons, founder of GoDaddy (an Inc. 500 company)
http://www.bobparsons.com
Bob Parsons writes very freely about his business, his own life, and his viewpoints in this weblog.

KC's Blog
http://blogs.caseysoftware.com/?q=node/104
In this internationally read weblog, KC discusses the ins and outs of the software industry. Issues such as The Failure of IT Projects and The Implications of No Privacy are dissected and contemplated with finesse and wit. In addition to KCs clever assertions about the state of the IT business, he also includes links, responses, and reviews of other business and technology weblogs.

Seth Godin's Blog
http://sethgodin.typepad.com/
What's the next thing in marketing? Seth Godin muses on marketing topics, though his opinions about a broad range of things are revealed. Most postings are relevant to business; if not, they're always entertaining.

Small Business CEO
http://smallbusinessceo.blogspot.com/
The people at Small Business CEO attempt to make life easier for the average small business owner. With their interesting articles and expert advise they provide resources, content, and ideas to help the CEOs of small businesses grow their establishment.

Space Politics
http://www.spacepolitics.com/
Anyone in the aerospace industry definitely will want to keep tabs on this weblog, as will space enthusiasts and those entrepreneurs who want to track technology policy. The author, Jeff Foust, also edits The Space Review, ( www.thespacereview.com/) a site that contains essays and commentary about the final frontier.

Virginia Postrel's Dynamist Blog,
http://www.dynamist.com/weblog/index.html
Postrel's first book, The Future and Its Enemies, rejects the left-right political dichotomy and suggests that the real battles these days are between stasists -- those who distrust change -- and dynamists -- those who embrace it. Most entrepreneurs will probably find themselves, like Postrel, on the dynamist side of the fence. Her second book, The Substance of Style, is about the increasing importance of aesthetics in today's economy. Her weblog is a mix of dynamist political commentary and notes on consumer culture.

WinkyShock, Inc.
http://winkyshock.blogspot.com
This weblog is "The Office," only in weblog form. It's an amusing daily record of life in cubicle land with a kooky cast of characters.

As one of the AdPulpers, we greatly appreciate the shout-out. Thanks!

I want to mention that The Global Small Business Blog -- http://borderbuster.blogspot.com -- is conspicuously absent from this list. Especially given the importance of global trade for small businesses, including The Global Small Business Blog as one of your readers' resources is essential.
